  1. FEEL FREE 90.9FM

Background

Like other local and community radio stations that have commenced operation in various parts of the country, Feel Free is a product of the government’s policy of liberalization of the air waves during the 1990s which ended the hegemony of the Zambia National Broadcaster (ZNBC) in the broadcasting sector.

Feel Free begun its test transmission on the 13th of February 2011 and was granted full broadcasting license on the 24th of May 2011. The radio station operates for 19 hours every day. It transmits English programs from 05:00hrs to midday and Nyanja programs from 12:00hrs to 20:00hrs whereas the final shift between 20:00hrs and 00:00hrs is a split of Nyanja and English programs.

Owing to the tribal cousinship between people in the Eastern Province and the Bembas of Northern Province( which we adequately embrace in our coverage area), Feel Free has made a deliberate move to fuse 3 hours of Bemba programming which started the first weekend of July 2014. The trilingual broadcasting also registers as another characteristic that sets us apart from other radio station in our region.

It is within the stations plans to expand its broadcasting time to 24hrs within the shortest time possible.

Feel Free broadcasts on Frequency Modulation 90.9 and covers a radius of 300 kilometers from Chipata on a 2000 Kilo Watt FM transmitter, making it the largest and first ever commercial radio station in the Eastern Province.

Realizing that world over there is a switch to digital innovations; Feel Free has not been left behind as we are airing on the digital application Radio Garden as well as on our website www.feelfreefmradio.com
